SAFETY
The underground is a space built on freedom, trust, and community. We want everyone who engages with Gulli Gang Records - at our events, online, or through our music - to feel safe, respected, and looked after. This page exists because we take that responsibility seriously.
1. At Events
Hearing Protection
Club and rave environments regularly exceed 100dB - levels that cause permanent hearing damage with prolonged exposure. We strongly recommend wearing earplugs at every event. High-fidelity earplugs (such as those by Loop, Alpine, or Earasers) reduce volume without distorting sound quality. Many venues we work with make earplugs available at the door. Your ears don't heal - protect them.
Hydration & Overheating
Dancing for hours in a hot, crowded space puts real strain on your body. Drink water regularly throughout the night - aim for roughly 500ml per hour when dancing. Avoid drinking excessive amounts of water in a short period, as this too carries risk. Take breaks, step outside when possible, and pay attention to how your body feels. If you notice signs of overheating in yourself or someone else - confusion, stopping sweating, extreme fatigue - seek first aid immediately. Most venues have a first aid station; know where it is when you arrive.
Consent & Respect
Every person at a Gulli Gang event deserves to feel safe in their body and their space. Unwanted touching, harassment, or intimidation of any kind is not tolerated - full stop. This applies on the dancefloor, at the bar, in the smoking area, and everywhere in between. If someone says no, or looks uncomfortable, back off. If you witness behaviour that makes someone feel unsafe, step in if you can do so safely, or alert staff immediately. Our events are a space for everyone. We take reports of harassment seriously and will remove anyone who violates this without hesitation.
Know Your Exits & First Aid
When you arrive at a venue, take a moment to locate the emergency exits and first aid point. In an emergency, this knowledge could make a real difference. If someone collapses or is in distress, call the venue's security or first aid team immediately. In a life-threatening emergency, call the German emergency number 112. Don't assume someone else has already called - make the call yourself.
2. Harm Reduction
We don't pretend substance use doesn't happen in our scene. It does. Rather than ignoring it, we choose to share honest, non-judgmental information that can genuinely keep people safer.
Know What You're Taking
The single most important thing you can do is know what you're consuming. Drug checking services test substances for dangerous adulterants like fentanyl, novel psychoactives, or incorrect dosing. These services are non-judgmental and confidential. In Hamburg and Berlin, organisations like Eve & Rave, Drogenberatung Hamburg, and Drugchecking Berlin offer testing and counselling. Checking your substances before taking them is not just sensible - it saves lives.
Mixing Substances
Combining substances - including alcohol - significantly increases risk. Some combinations are particularly dangerous: alcohol with MDMA accelerates dehydration and overheating; alcohol or stimulants with downers can mask warning signs your body is sending. If you choose to use, try to use one thing at a time, start with a low dose, and give it time to take effect before taking more. The effects in a club environment can hit differently than expected.
Look Out for Each Other
If a friend or stranger seems unwell, disoriented, or in distress, don't walk past. Stay with them, find a quiet space, and get help. Most venues have a designated chill-out area. Alert security or first aid staff - they are there to help, not to judge or get anyone in trouble. Signs to watch for: unresponsiveness, difficulty breathing, severe confusion, seizures, or skin that is cold and clammy. In any of these cases, call 112 immediately and stay with the person until help arrives.

3. Mental Health
Overwhelm & Anxiety
Crowded, loud, and intense environments can trigger anxiety or sensory overwhelm - even in people who regularly go out. If you start feeling panicked, dissociated, or like you need to escape, it's okay to step away. Find the chill-out zone, go outside, or sit somewhere quiet. Slow your breathing - in for 4 counts, hold for 4, out for 4. Tell a friend or a staff member how you're feeling. You don't have to push through it alone.
After the Night
The days following an intense night out can be emotionally and physically draining. Low mood, anxiety, fatigue, and irritability are common and usually temporary. Rest, eat, hydrate, and give yourself time to recover. If low mood persists for more than a few days or feels overwhelming, please reach out to a professional. There is no shame in asking for support.
